Gone are the days when I spent hours playing with Barbie.
I do mean hours.
I had it all... or close to it.
The 4 story town house... WITH ELEVATOR and fully furnished! I even had a china cabinet that included a 12 piece place setting of all the different plates, bowls, cups, saucers, and utnesils. As a mom, I have to ask you... Do you KNOW how many small pieces that is?????????????????????
TWO Barbie corvettes... one was REMOTE CONTROL!!! (A big deal for 20-something years ago!!!)
Enough Barbies to start my own drill team... each with multiple changes of clothes and hairstyles to match the times.
A few Kens to make the family complete. (They didn't have Barbie babies back then, I don't think. I just used my Little People... remember those???)
I am quite sure I have left out many, many other things.
But you know what??? All I have to do is go up to my attic and pull a great big box down where I will find every one of these treasured items neatly packed away in tissue and stored for another day.
Or maybe another girl???
We have entered a new generation of Barbie at our house. Hgirl has decided Barbie is the one. I remember that. It even makes me smile to think of it. It makes me smile to see it.
So today, Hgirl got a new Barbie for her birthday. (More birthday celebration notation to come...). This is one that she saw on Saturday morning cartoons and asked for specifically. And I found it!!! And she got it. This one comes with a swimming pool and two babies. She is pumped!!! And I was thrilled to see Barbie and the babies (more like toddlers) modestly dressed... even for bathing suits!
And the new discovery???
Barbie now has permanent panties!!!
Why is that such a comfort to me???
More comforting would be to know Ken has similar permanent boxer briefs.
Now, Hgirl wants the "castle". Does Barbie even have a castle??? Not sure but Hgirl is looking at the rest of her unopened presents trying to figure out which one is the castle. There's no castle. Uh oh.....
Is a town house a modern day castle??? Castles don't have elevators. That has to be a plus. Where, oh where would we put this castle??? I think we'll wait for another day to break out the modern day castle... as well as the modern day carriages and the modern day Princes and Princesses.
In the meantime... SHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Please don't tell Hgirl of the treasures in the attic. Another day, another time. It will be a special ceremony. The passing of the torch. There will be dim lights, candles, and annoiting oils. Okay, maybe it's starting to sound more like a seance but you get the picture. After all, these are no ordinary Barbies. They are treasured Barbies. Uh Oh... these Barbies don't have permanent panties....

Too funny! Brings lots of memories back here too....my sister and I were soooo into Barbie. My Dad built our house, pretty cool. Then, he sat and carved out a potty and a bathtub!!! All is probably still at my parent's. My Agirl has shown no interest but....maybe one day!? OH, no painted on, permanent bra?
AND, I didn't know there were Barbie children now! I wanna play!
