Reflux

Sweet Pea has reflux.

Neither of my other two even spit up.

Reflux.

She spits up

with burps,

without burps,

after meals,

in between meals,

before meals...

always.

It is completely unpredictable.

And then there's the projectile vomit.

Think "Exorcist" without the head spinning part.
(It's my head that spins in reaction to the vomit!)

Talk about unnerving!

The Internet is a wonderful thing and a scary thing all in one.

A wealth of information... and just enough to scare the pants off you!

I've gotten lots of information and suggestions and implemented so much of what I have read. I am thankful for the Internet in that respect, for sure.

We have changed everything from nursing positions and procedures to my diet to holding her upright for 45 mins to an hour after feeding and NOT holding her certain other ways. My arms are exhausted!!!

But after a frightful, frustrating, and disappointing Monday afternoon/evening, we headed to the doctor first thing yesterday morning.

Although she seems to be losing a large amount of what she takes in, she has gained almost 2 full pounds in 3 weeks! Good news.

Her tummy "felt normal". More good news.

We left with a prescription. Better news!

The prescription (although it's very early!) seems to be helping! Best news of all!!!

I know many of you have endured the same thing with your little ones.

Share your experiences... what worked, what didn't, what you realize now that you didn't then.

Still open for any and all suggestions.............

oh, the memories we have of reflux. karsyn spit up all day every day until she was 10 months old. anyone who babysat her, or even held her, remembers.

she was formula fed, so we tried every kind ever made until we ended with enfamil ar and it worked wonders. even tried several different meds. she eventually just stopped.

i have no words of wisdom here. i just know what you're going through.

As I told you, my Jman had this! Not the projectile, thank goodness! Just tons of changes and washing all the time!
We definately kept him upright at least 30 min. after eating. Smaller, more frequent feedings. I also made sure I had those lap pads under his head so that when he did spit up, a lot of times, all I had to change was the lap pad and not the whole bassinet or crib. And, we went through burp cloths like crazy!! Always had to have tons of those on hand! And bibs! Like Erin, I feel your pain!
We did drops of some kind for a while but, it tasted awful and he threw a big fit with them. I don't remember it helping much, glad it is helping your angel!
He eventually stopped, at about 7 months or so I think.

I'm glad to hear that the medicine is helping a little. I will keep praying. Jake had a great time with Zach yesterday!

Ethan had the projectile kind and the blood curdling screaming 24/7 but it went undiagnosed and was called Colic. They put him on the million dollar formula-Nutramigen. It was a lifesaver.

Isaiah's reflux was horrible. It started at about 3 or 4 weeks. Same formula but we also had a prescription. He slept in his car seat (because sleeping with reflux was so dangerous on his back and stomach) until he was 4 months old. If your prescription is the kind that has to be compounded, do not wait until the last minute to get it refilled. Only certain pharmacists can do it and they don't work holidays, weekends or anytime after 5. Just word to the wise. Love !!!
