Well, sort of.
We waited and waited for the nurse to call with results yesterday. I knew since they have been so busy, it might be later in the day before we got the call. Maybe even after 5:00. So, I didn't begin to panic until 7:00 p.m. rolled around. By then, I was certain we had been forgotten.
Hgirl began crying inconsolably for Chickfila about that time and since she had not shown any interest in food until that point, I loaded up and headed that way. I was still holding on to the hope that maybe we would get a call while I was out and could run by the pharmacy to fill whichever prescription the doctor deemed necessary.
Turning back into our neighborhood, bummed, Vince called. It was 7:30 and Dr. Lawrence had just called the house. Not his nurse, but the doctor himself.... at 7:30 p.m. Just goes to show you how busy they are, how many sick babies there are, and what a wonderful, dedicated doctor we have! Did I mention it was 7:30!!!
The strep test came back negative... so that leaves flu. Except the flu test won't be back until the end of the week so she isn't positive for flu (yet) either. BUT the only way the flu meds. work is to start them within 12-48 hours of the first onset of symptoms. SO, we can't wait until the end of the week and we started Tamiflu last night. Fortunately, an antiviral is not like an antibiotic and "just in case" is okay with an antiviral.
I dropped the food off and headed back to the pharmacy. EIGHTY BUCKS LATER(!!!!), I'm home with meds. Let's just say, it isn't Hgirl's favorite thing to swallow! After lots of negotiation and a little strong-arming, she calmed down. Something happened because overnight, the fever got below 102* for the first time since she woke with fever Monday afternoon. She got some rest, drank quite a bit during the night, and the fever is not as high (so far) today. Coincidence? Maybe. But I'd rather think it is our $80.00, well spent.
I got a call from the nurse this morning. Apparently, they do a second screening on the strep culture and if it turns positive, they will call back and start her on antibiotics. (???)
Hgirl told me first thing this morning that the medicine was NOT making her feel better because she still has a "big bo-bo on her neck". In other words, "Stop telling me this hog-wash about medicine making me better because I'm not buying it! I still feel terrible and my throat still hurts!" Then, she told her dad that her orange juice was spicy (it burns her throat) and that makes her throat MAD! She is sicker than I think I have ever seen either of my kids but she still has plenty of "kick" and manages to keep us all in our place around here.
Stay well, friends. We're doing what we can around here to do the same!

I have the most wonderful remedy an ER dr. gave me for super sore throats. It helps adults and even little babies. Eman had ulcers all down his throat when he was about 4 months old and could not take a bottle because it hurt soooo bad. So the ER dr. told me to mix one tsp of Benadryl with one tsp of Maloxx (spelling?). Stir. Then give (toddler dose to 4 year old) 1 tsp of the mixture. I use it with everyone in the house except when it is me, I use tablespoons not tsp. But it works. It isn't enough medicine to do anything but it is enough medicine to coat the throat and numb it for up to 4 hours. I use it every 4 hours or especially before bedtime, or naptime.

You have no idea how tempted I have been to keep everybody locked up in my house!!! Almost everybody I know has been sick somehow in the last month. Callie's teacher had strep and the boy that sits next to her threw up! UGH! Braden's preschool is dropping like flies with the flu. Gray's best little friend (that he rode to school with today) got sent home with an eye infection and cough. We are still well. Lord, PLEASE, keep this little baby & her mommy (and the others, too) well! I will pray for you and the little one in your belly to stay so very well!!!!!!!! Tell Hgirl that we need her to get better SOON! (try airbornne for everybody else- so far so good for us!!)
